Used Rolex in Athens: How to Buy Pre-Owned With Confidence

GrecoWatch title card: Used Rolex in Athens

In short: GrecoWatch sells and sources pre-owned Rolex in Athens, including the Submariner, GMT-Master II, Daytona, Datejust and Day-Date. Every watch is opened and inspected by our watchmaker before it is offered. View it privately by appointment at Spyrou Merkouri 4, Pangrati, or buy from abroad with fully insured worldwide shipping.

Most people buying a pre-owned Rolex in Athens start by asking which model. The more useful first question is who you are buying from. The same reference can be listed by a private seller, a marketplace, a jeweller and a specialist within a few streets of each other, often at similar prices. What separates them is everything a listing can’t show: who opened the watch, what they found inside, and who answers the phone if something goes wrong a year later.

This page covers what we hold, how every watch is checked before it is offered, and what to verify wherever you end up buying, whether you live in Athens, are here for a few days, or are buying from abroad.

Why buy a Rolex pre-owned

  • You can have it now. Waiting lists at authorised dealers for the steel sports models (Submariner, GMT-Master II, Daytona) run to years, with no guarantee your name comes up. On the secondary market, the watch already exists.
  • Discontinued references and dials. Some of the most wanted Rolex watches are no longer made. The pre-owned market is the only place left to find them.
  • Value that holds. A well-kept Rolex holds its value better than almost anything else you can wear. We don’t sell watches as investments, because prices move in both directions, but that stability is part of why people choose them.

What you’ll find in our collection

Our collection is built around Rolex: GMT-Master II, Submariner, Daytona, Datejust, Day-Date, Sky-Dweller, Explorer, Yacht-Master and Oyster Perpetual, in steel, two-tone and precious metals. Listings with a price are in stock. Listings marked “Price upon request” are references we can source to order, and we say so plainly rather than let a listing imply a watch is in the safe. Each one describes the condition and exactly what comes with the watch: box, papers and warranty card where present. Viewings are private and by appointment, so you see the watch in daylight and on your own wrist rather than in a photograph.

How is a pre-owned Rolex checked before it is sold?

Nothing enters the collection without passing through our workshop first. Our master watchmaker has more than 50 years at the bench, including years working for Rolex, and every piece is checked for:

  • Authenticity, inside and out. Movement, dial, hands, case and bracelet, not only the parts a photograph shows. The real risk in today’s market is rarely the obvious fake. It is the frankenwatch: a watch assembled from mismatched genuine and aftermarket parts, or a genuine case wearing a replacement dial. It survives a casual look. It does not survive an open caseback.
  • Movement health. Rate, accuracy and power reserve, checked rather than assumed.
  • Water resistance. A pressure test wherever the construction allows. A Submariner that hasn’t been tested since its last opening is a Submariner in name only.
  • History. Polishing, replaced parts, signs of a rushed service. None of these automatically rules a watch out, but all of them belong in its description and its price.

If a watch needs work before it is sold, it is done in our own workshop with original parts only, and every service we carry out comes with a written 2-year warranty.

To be clear, GrecoWatch is independent and has no affiliation with Rolex. Our watchmaker’s years working for Rolex are experience, and they do not make us part of the Rolex network. The official Rolex service centre in Athens is at Stadiou 3.

Buying while you’re in Athens, or from abroad

  • If you’re visiting. Message us before you travel with the reference you’re after. We’ll tell you plainly whether we have it or can source it, and arrange a private viewing at Spyrou Merkouri 4. Don’t let a short trip rush you into a decision, including with us.
  • If you’re buying from abroad. We answer condition questions directly, with photographs of the actual watch, and ship fully insured worldwide. Import duties and taxes are set by your own country, so check them before you commit. We are not tax advisers.

What should you check when buying a used Rolex?

These apply at any dealer, not only ours:

  • Serial against reference. The serial should fit the era of the reference. Our guide to Rolex serial numbers shows how to date one, and reference numbers tell you what the watch is supposed to be.
  • Box and papers. Not essential, but they add value and make resale easier. A watch without them isn’t suspect by default; our note on buying a Rolex without papers explains when it matters.
  • Service history. Ask when it was last serviced, by whom, and with what parts. “Don’t know” isn’t a deal-breaker, but it should show in the price.
  • The watch on your wrist. Ten minutes wearing it tells you more than any photograph.
  • Promises in writing. Anything a seller tells you, ask for it in writing. We do this as a matter of course.

The full routine we use is set out in how to spot a fake Rolex.

Trading in your current watch

A watch you no longer wear can become part of the payment. We buy, sell and trade, and how we value a Rolex is explained on our page about selling a Rolex in Athens. The difference is settled simply, in either direction.

Frequently asked questions

Is it safe to buy a pre-owned Rolex?

From a specialist who opens every watch, yes. The risk was never the word “pre-owned”. It is the word “unchecked”. Every Rolex we sell has been opened and inspected by our master watchmaker before it is offered.

Do you ship outside Greece?

Yes, fully insured, worldwide. If you can come in, we would still suggest a viewing first. A watch should be tried on before it is bought.

Can I trade in my current watch?

Yes. Send photographs for a first assessment. The final valuation is always made with the watch in hand, never from a photo.

Are you an authorised Rolex dealer?

No. GrecoWatch is an independent pre-owned specialist and is not affiliated with Rolex. If you want a new watch at retail and are prepared to wait, an authorised dealer is the right place. For a watch still under factory warranty, the official Rolex service centre in Athens is at Stadiou 3.
