Buying a Pre-Owned Rolex Oyster Perpetual in Athens
Start with the reference, because a plain dial hides several generations. The 39 mm ref. 114300 from 2015 uses calibre 3132 with a 48-hour power reserve and shares its case with the Explorer 214270. In 2020 the 41 mm ref. 124300 replaced it, with calibre 3230 and about 70 hours, and the 36 mm ref. 126000 took the same movement. The 34, 31 and 28 mm references (124200, 277200 and 276200) run calibre 2232 with about 55 hours. At Watches & Wonders 2025 the 41 mm became ref. 134300, with the same 41 x 11.6 mm dimensions but a larger crown, thinner and sharper lugs and a slimmer clasp.
Most of the variety, and most of the risk, sits in the dials. In 2020 the 41 mm arrived in bright lacquer colours such as turquoise blue, coral red and yellow. Rolex says its coloured Oyster Perpetual dials start as six layers of lacquer on a brass base, with the hour markers and crown riveted on by hand. The 2023 dial collectors call Celebration, or “bubbles”, sets multicoloured bubbles on a glossy turquoise lacquer base. A dial that has been refinished, or never belonged to that reference, changes what you are buying.
- Read the reference engraved between the lugs at 12 o'clock and match it to the warranty card. A 124300 and a 134300 look almost identical; the 134300 has the larger crown, thinner lugs and slimmer Oysterclasp.
- Check the dial against the reference. On a 41 mm, coral red, turquoise blue, yellow or Celebration points to a 124300, while pistachio, beige or the 2026 multicoloured Jubilee-motif dial points to a 134300. Red grape belongs to the 39 mm 114300.
- Look for a date window or Cyclops lens. The Oyster Perpetual is time-only, so either one means the watch has been altered or is not what it claims to be.
- Examine lacquer dials under magnification for uneven lacquer, weak printing or loose hand-riveted markers, all signs of a refinished or aftermarket dial.
- Check rate and amplitude on a timegrapher, then let the watch run down from full wind and compare with the published power reserve: about 70 hours for calibre 3230, 55 for calibre 2232 and 48 for calibre 3132 in the 114300. A clear shortfall suggests a service is due.
Rolex Oyster Perpetual Guarantee and Trade-In
Does a pre-owned Oyster Perpetual still carry the Rolex guarantee?
A pre-owned Oyster Perpetual is covered by the five-year Rolex guarantee only while time remains on it, counted from the date on the original warranty card. Check that date before you buy. A 124300, 126000 or 134300 with a card dated within the last five years may still have time left; almost every 114300, replaced by the 124300 in 2020, has run out. Separately, a service in our independent workshop carries our own written two-year warranty on the work, using original parts only. We are not an authorised Rolex service centre.
Can I sell or trade in my Oyster Perpetual with you?
Yes. We buy and trade Oyster Perpetuals, including earlier references such as the 114300 and 116000. Send photos on WhatsApp to +30 697 546 1445 for a first estimate, then bring the watch, with any box, card and service records, to us in Pangrati, Athens, by appointment. A firm offer follows a hands-on inspection, never photos alone.
