Cartier Watches in Athens
This page lists the Cartier watches we offer at GrecoWatch, an independent dealer and service workshop in Pangrati, Athens. New watches, such as the Santos, the Tank Must and the Panthère, are sourced to order, unworn, with box, papers and Cartier's international warranty: tell us the reference and size you want and we will confirm availability and timing before you commit. Pre-owned pieces pass through our workshop first, where our master watchmaker, who has more than 50 years of experience, inspects them at movement level, not only by eye. Viewings are private and by appointment at Spyrou Merkouri 4.
Buying a Pre-Owned Cartier in Athens
The Tank dates from 1917 and has been copied for a century, so knowing the shape proves nothing. The family takes in the Must, Solo, Louis Cartier, Française and Américaine. The Santos, first made for an aviator in 1904, is the square sports model with the screwed bezel. On current models, test the QuickSwitch strap system and the SmartLink bracelet sizing. The Ballon Bleu has its blue cabochon crown in a guard on the side of the case, and the Panthère is more jewellery than instrument.
Try a Cartier on before you decide, because proportions that look right in a photograph can wear differently on the wrist. Buying from outside Athens? Ask us anything about the specific watch and we will send photographs before you commit, then ship it fully insured worldwide. Check your country's import duties and taxes first. Any work a watch needs before sale is done in our own workshop, with original parts only.
- Find the hidden signature. On many Cartier dials the word CARTIER is hidden in one of the Roman numerals, small enough that you need a loupe to read it. Copies often miss it or get it wrong, but not every model carries one, so a missing signature proves nothing by itself.
- Check the crown cabochon. The stone should be tight and free of chips. Cartier has used synthetic spinel or sapphire depending on the model and era, so a loose stone or the wrong one suggests the crown has been replaced.
- Ask whether every diamond was set by Cartier. Stones added later usually lower the value rather than raise it, and a factory-set piece is priced very differently from a customised one.
- On a Santos or a Panthère the bracelet is half the watch, so check the bracelet and clasp for stretch and worn pins, and confirm that each link is genuine.
Cartier Questions
How common are fake Cartiers?
More common than most buyers expect. The designs are simple, the Tank has been copied for a century, and good fakes regularly pass in photographs. So we check every Cartier we sell in person, down to the movement, with the hidden signature, the crown cabochon and the hallmarks examined in the metal, not judged by eye.
Is a quartz Cartier worth buying?
Yes, as long as you know what you are buying and the price reflects it. Quartz is normal at Cartier, especially in the smaller Tanks and the Panthère, and a quartz Tank is just as genuine as an automatic one. It is a different watch, cheaper to service and cheaper to buy into, and we price it that way.
Do you service Cartier watches?
Yes, in our own workshop in Pangrati, with original parts only and a written 2-year warranty on every service. Before any work begins, you receive a written diagnosis and quote. We are an independent specialist, not part of Cartier's own service network, so if your watch is still under factory warranty, send it to Cartier first.
